ROTARY CLUB OF CALCUTTA SOUTH WEST

( 1956 – 2010)

This Club was named Rotary Club of South West Calcutta when chartered in 1956. Presently the Club is called, Rotary Club of Calcutta South West. Thsi happens to be the second oldest Rotary Club in Kolkata after RC Calcutta. Over past 54 years the club has taken up several humanitarian projects. The club has two Rotary Community Corps namely RCC Hussain Shah Road Bustee Welfare Society and RCC Sherpur Progressive United Club. The club also has a Rotaract Club – Rotaract Club of Calcutta South West.This club has also sponsored RC Kobitirtha, RC Siliguri, RC Behala, RC New Alipore. The administration of the club is being governed by Board of Directors and the projects are administered by the Rotary Club of South West Calcutta Trust.

Several members of the club have served at the district level and held important offices. This club has given the District four Governors:

• PDG Rtn Mihir Roy 1969-70
• PDG Rtn Motilal Gupta 1974-75
• PDG Rtn Manindra Chandra Poddar 1978-79
• PDG Rtn Siddhartha Sadhan Bose 2001-2002

Whistle is the weekly bulletin published by the club. The name whistle is being derived from the whistle of the ship and reminds the members of the good old days when they used to meet at Gardenreach.
